Why Casting Tools exists
Casting Tools was created by Hugh Edwards, owner of Off The Page. Hugh has spent his whole career in and around performance, and for a long time he has believed the acting and voice acting communities around the world have had an unfair deal.
In his words: "I have long thought that the acting and voice acting communities around the world have had an unfair deal, being forced to pay-to-play, and often having to pay vast sums to get tiered access to work. No other industry in the world would ever condone this. And so I thought it was high time I put my experience and my thoughts where my actions were, and created this platform - because no one else was going to do it, and least of all those who have profited on performers for so long."
Off The Page
Through Off The Page, Hugh and his team have worked on over 400 game, film and television titles - directing and casting performances that reach audiences all over the world. A selection of that work can be seen on his IMDB profile.
Off The Page runs its own recording studio in Shepherd's Bush, London, where much of that work comes to life - a home for the performers, directors and producers the company collaborates with every day.
Gravy for the Brain
Hugh is the joint owner of Gravy for the Brain, the world's leading voiceover training and community platform, which he runs alongside veteran British voice actor Peter Dickson. Together they have helped countless performers build real, sustainable careers in the voice industry.
A voice & casting director since 2002
Hugh has worked as a voice director and casting director in the voice industry since 2002 - more than two decades shaping performances, discovering talent and championing the people who bring scripts to life. That experience sits at the heart of every decision behind Casting Tools.
The One Voice Conference
Hugh is the joint owner of the One Voice Conference with Peter Dickson, running editions in both the UK and the USA. In the USA, curation is joined by voice actor J. Michael Collins. The conference brings the global voiceover community together each year for training, networking and the celebration of the craft at the One Voice Awards.
VOX
Hugh is also the current joint-curator of VOX, the longest-running gathering in the industry, by over a decade, which has been bringing voice artists and producers together since 1994. Stewarding a community with that much history is a genuine privilege.
